Requests for the Bank’s assistance may come from a variety of sources including private companies and financial institutions as well as governmental, public and non-profit entities. The project review process of the Bank does not distinguish between any category of potential clients and evaluates each application with appropriate care.

Initial Approach

Initial inquiries for Project Finance operations are to be sent directly to BSTDB headquarters.

The Bank requests information from clients to enable it to understand whether the project fits within its guidelines and strategies. The content of the initial information for project finance operations is presented on the web site www.bstdb.gr.

The Bank manages inquiries and applications in a proactive, service-oriented manner; in this context, co-operation by clients in terms of both the quality and availability of information is a key factor.

The Bank ensures the confidentiality of information it receives.

Approval

All projects undergo a thorough appraisal, after which they are presented to the Board of Directors for approval. Approval will represent the formal commitment of the Bank to provide financial support to the project.

Accessing the BSTDB’s Trade Finance Programme

Banks interested in participating in the BSTDB’s Trade Finance Programme should contact the BSTDB’s headquarters in Thessaloniki by fax and/or phone and address inquiries to the Trade Finance Department.

Companies interested in accessing Trade finance Programmes should direct inquiries to major local commercial banks or local export credit agencies or development banks (financial intermediaries) participating in the Trade Finance Programme. For a list of participating financial intermediaries, please fax the BSTDB’s headquarters and address the fax to the Trade Finance Department.

Technical Assistance

The Bank may provide clients with access to grants or financing to assist in project preparation, or development of necessary regulatory or institutional infrastructure. The Bank focuses its use of available technical assistance resources only on programmes that have direct impact on, or are linked with, projects under preparation.

Environmental Procedures

Each project supported by BSTDB must comply with the environmental requirements of the Bank. The environmental impact of a project is carefully investigated. The Bank may request sponsors of a project to commission independent environmental experts to prepare reports on the environmental impact of the project. No one operation of the Bank is approved without appropriate environmental screening. Environmental indicators are carefully analyzed and monitored throughout the life of the project.

Procurement Procedures

A set of rules and requirements for procurement of goods and services applies to each project to be supported by the Bank. The Bank’s procurement policy is based on the principles of fair and open competition for suppliers of goods and services to the Bank’s supported operations.
